--Writing Prompt--due Wednesday
Discussion/Writing Prompt: You should plan to spend at least 15 minutes developing your answers to this. You should give examples from your own life and from the play to support your answers.
Due Wednesday!
----Based on your reading thus far, do you believe it is possible for Romeo and Juliet to have fallen in love with one another as quickly as they do? Why or why not? Is it possible to love a person by only seeing his/her face? If not, then what does it mean to be in “true love” with a person? Is love different than lust? Does love make humans do silly things? Does love make you more or less likely to make positive decisions? Find evidence from the text and from your life to support your answers.
--Critical Reading Journal--2 times/per week; 15-20 minutes per writing; date your entries
--Prep for the Socratic Seminar (2/17/2015---NEXT Tuesday). Click here for the rubric (I'll give you hard copies tomorrow) or look below to review it. This is an assessment grade and verbal participation is required!

9 January 2015 (Friday)--Snow Day!
Woo hoo! See, I thought there might be a Snow Day--I hope you all packed your backpacks like I suggested!
--Final Draft of your Purpose Statement is due by 11:59pm on SUNDAY night (11/11/2015)--As in 1 minute before midnight and YES, I will be checking the timestamp, so please do't test this (I'm thinking in particular of one student in my 4th period class who shall remain nameless....)
--Make sure you edit it for grammar, spelling, etc with a fine tooth comb--the editing checklist is below for you!
--Work on your Midterm this weekend.
--Questions? Email me! Please address your email politely, beginning with "Hello Ms. Alt" or "Dear Ms. Alt"--not with a demand, such as "Tell me what the homework was"--that makes me feel sad. Politeness is the key to success in some situations!

SUNDAY NIGHT ALERT:
Ms. Alt is super sick. And I will be out tomorrow (Monday)--which means, your paper is not going to be collected until TUESDAY. I feel totally awful being sick on a day you have a major paper due, but I just seriously am like a walking wall of germs, my young ones. I left the sub a note about relating to you how badly I feel for missing another day (2 in one week! Uggg, come on Alt!), but I wanted to put it out here too--I feel really bad. I know you will enjoy another day without me, but please plan to turn in your memoir on Tuesday when I return.
Off to bed now for rest, rest, rest and tea.
Sick and germy,
Ms. Alt

4th Hour--Many of you did GREAT this week with taking some risks and trying new things. Next week I'm looking forward to working on developing our discussion skills in class. Get excited!
5th Hour--Ditto as above, but some of you are still so quiet...start getting your voiceboxes warmed up, because we're working on discussion too next week and it's time to start sharing your thoughts and ideas in class. I promise it will be fun!

Homework:
--Rewrite your vocab words 5 times--due Thursday
